About the Author
Stephen Baskerville is Assistant Professor Government at Patrick Henry College and president of the American Coalition for Fathers of Children. He holds a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics and is Earhart Fellow at the Howard Center for Family, Religion, and Society. The author of more than eighty articles and studies on fatherhood and family issues, he has appeared widely on national radio and television programs.

Long-awaited treatment of civil injustice

I applaud Dr. Baskerville's delving into a subject that has been so thoroughly ignored in our society: the undermining of the role of fathers in raising a literate, stable generation of children in the reality of 50%+ divorce rates. He brings forward many poignant examples of the erratic inconsistency and outright flagrant abuse and excess in the family court system. Situations that, rather than promoting the "best interest of the child" as promoted by the Court system actually result in their detriment.

Unfortunately, the delivery is very academic and dry. The message is repetitive and monotonous. In reading it, one feels as though they are being clubbed by the message. I feel this detracts, rather than enhances, what should be a very significant message to those who are not aware of the issues faced by "disenfranchised fathers", and the corruption of the system that is purportedly put in place to protect children.

An incredible expose on all facets of the divorce/custody system

The greatest civil rights abuse in the Western world today is the forced removal of children from their parents, usually their fathers, by family courts and social services agencies. Family courts in America and other democracies have almost absolute power to take away people's children without giving any reason, confiscate their property, and incarcerate them without trial, charge, or counsel. These courts operate largely in secret.

A virtual publishing blackout has protected this abuse, and until now no comprehensive expos� of this political underworld has appeared. Some fine books by authors like Sanford Braver, Warren Farrell, Jeffery Leving, Dean Tong, and Jed Abraham, have partially broken the silence with gently worded critiques of family law and policy, along with numerous self-published books that reach a more limited audience. But this is the first time a major publisher has revealed the full horror of what is taking place in America's family courts and government bureaucracies. Not only the systematic removal of children from fit and loving parents but the criminalization of the parents, often in complete defiance of constitutional protections and due process of law, is widespread and routine.

All assertions are carefully documented by a writer with scholarly credentials (PhD from the London School of Economics and professor of political science at Patrick Henry College). Baskerville not only describes what is happening but explains why, demonstrating the unaccountable power, conflicts-of-interest, and extremist ideology driving the most tyrannical governmental machinery ever to arise in the United States. As such, this book bears comparison with Michael Harrington's The Other America and Upton Sinclair's The Jungle.

Family Court Law is the most corrupt industry in America today. It is also the most dangerous threat to the constitutional freedoms and protections (which many claim that all citizens are granted) in the history of our society - really, since the institution of slavery. The parallels between slavery and the divorce industry are erily compelling...

Upon first glance, Family Court Law is just another harmless branch of our legal system. We've all been brain-washed into believing that state employees, lawyers and social workers really do care and want what's best for our children - and that they know what is in our children's best interests better than we parents do. After all, they are very righteous people, aren't they? And they really DO care. Thus, we are given Hillary Clinton's assertion that "it takes a village to raise a child..."

There is something inherently bizzare about this whole concept... Why would these strangers care about my child, whom they've never even met? How could their judgment ever supercede that of a fit parent who has raised and loved his daughter from birth? Good Book

This is a must for all serious Eleanor Powell fans. In depth information and great pictures. Its a shame it wasn't printed on better quality paper and the photos are not glossies. But she is (unfortunately) a niche interest movie star. The book however was a small edition print and is worth at least 3 times its published value and will only increase. So a good investment and a pleasure for a fan.

This book about Eleanor Powell is difficult to find and much
too expensive (now) because it was apparently self-published
in 1997 by the authoress (Alice B. Levin). Back then it sold for $24.95.
On the third page it says the publisher is Empire Publishing,
and that additional copies could be obtained by writing to Alice Levin.
It probably was never reprinted in paperback. Ms. Levin knew
Eleanor Powell personally My copy is a wonderful 168-page large-print
book with lots of photographs. By careful research on the Internet,
you might be able to find this title for a reasonable price.

Constantine fans - enjoy!

I'm a big fan of John Constantine and the "John Constantine: Hellblazer" series. Constantine is one of the coolest characters in comics. My favorite Constantine story is probably the original graphic novel, "All His Engines". "Pandemonium" and "Dark Entries" are just two other Constantine stories that are also right up there as being masterful works of horror. This entry is also worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as those others I just touted.

Si Spencer does a really good job of weaving a thoroughly enjoyable "Hellblazer" tale that invokes all of the traits of the John Constantine character that fans love and relish. His sneeringly sarcastic wit, devilish charm, determination, detective skills, magic abilities, and overall James Dean-like cool are all on display here. The plot never lingers too long, always pushing forward and upping the stakes. It's a very brutal story. Not for the faint of heart. There are also twists and turns along the way that keep you glued to your seat. And the story concludes with that classic, triumphant "I got the last laugh" Constantine reversal-of-fortune ending that is what, in my opinion, makes the series so much fun to read.

The art by Sean Murphy is a blend of both house and indie styles. His characters are generally very realistic-looking, yet have a somewhat jagged, skewed, cartoonish appearance to them that has the bloody fingerprints of originality smeared all over them. His style is fresh and unique. It's both highly detailed(which, in this case, leads to some extremely disturbing and gory scenes) and exceptional in its ability to draw your main focus to what is most vital to the scene, allowing you to soak in all the wonderfully illustrated backgrounds without being distracting. Murphy has a definite command of his art.

It isn't perfect, but it's more than worthy of the 4 stars I have given it. In fact, I think it's worth 4 1/2. I also forgot to mention the cool little illustrated prose story at the end of the book by Dave Gibbons of "Watchmen" fame. It only adds to the overall positive experience I had while reading this graphic novel. If you're a fan of Constantine, you should pick this one up. Those of you who are unfamiliar with "Hellblazer" should give this one a try. But be forwarned: once you've had a taste of the character, John Constantine, you can become highly addicted. So be prepared to burn a hole in your pocket trying to get your fix of him through the many other graphic novels he inhabits.

Not my kind of book, but good, regardless.

After a car accident that leads to Constantine's hospitalization, two twisted doctors use Constantine's blood to infect the city's inhabitants, effectively demon-possessing them.

"City of Demons" is my introduction to Hellblazer's world and it titles itself appropriately: the book has dark, grotesque, and snippy elements all wrapped up within what I found to be an intriguing plot.

It is a fairly linear story providing minimal twists but strong character work carries it along. The writing is definitely UK and it took some time to adjust but it was a welcome journey. Constantine as a character truly gets established and his reluctant-hero persona is never lost; I finally understand John Constantine's appeal now for I found myself wanting to know more about him page-after page.

Sean Murphy's lively, sketchy art is absolutely stunning. Although there are some over-rendered panels, with tons of crosshatching littering characters' faces, it remains awesome eye-candy that successfully coordinates with the script. Storytelling-wise, there were several unclear panels which forced me to reread the page, but I honestly did not mind for the art looked so great.

Overall, it is a well-written, great-looking tale that kept my full attention until the end.

Coming into the book, I obviously knew Hellblazer is entrenched in dark content, but it personally was a bit too much for me. A handful of "mature-rated" comics line my bookshelf but this one pushed the bar to a far higher level with its cannibalistic images and some sick material one would probably expect from a demonic story.

Objectively speaking, "City of Demons" is a solid, solid standalone graphic novel that kept a Hellblazer newcomer like me interested despite minor flaws with storytelling, art preferences, and occasional loose writing. That being said, this is a city I do not plan on returning to anytime soon.

which is a good sign in my book

I actually know nothing about the franchise and only picked this up because I needed more of Sean Murphy's artwork in my life. The coloring is a little flat instead of shaded but it works for the tone of the story. The pacing keeps it interesting and despite not knowing anything about the franchise I still kept on turning the pages wanting to know what happened next, which is a good sign in my book.

Have just gotten back into playing after too many years to mention. I'm attempting reading the chord method for the left hand which I've not really done before. This book offered me almost instant success in playing Christmas music...some easy and some with a bit more challenge.I would recommend for new players or redo's like me.

The best Christmas Fake-Book for beginners/intermediate pianists

This book is amazing, I misplaced my other copy so here I am buying it again. For people who have a basic knowledge of chords, or are in the process of learning chords, this book is perfect for you. If you know 10 chords then you can play zillions of Christmas songs and be the pianist at any Christmas sing-along. I use this book every Christmas.

This is one of my favorite Christmas books to use with my piano students.
The songs are written in the Key of C so beginners can enjoy learning many melodys with few sharps or flats. My advancing students can add accompaniments with the chord clues and use what they've learned in their Suzuki method studies, block chords or a great variety of patterns! It is a tool which grows with the student musically, has the words for sing along fun for the whole family, and the notes are large enough for young (and old) eyes! The price is very affordable from Amazon too!

About the Author
MARK ETZKORN is a former Senior Associate Editor at Futures magazine where he focused on technical analysis and trading systems. A former trader and broker at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, as well as an independent off-floor trader, Mr. Etzkorn has worked at every major futures and options exchange in Chicago. He is currently a financial writer and trader, and a contributing editor at Futures.

promises a lot, but delivers very little

The "absolute truth" is in the book's own conclusion: "The evidence suggests oscillators function better as discretionary or forecasting tools than as the foundation for systematic trading strategies." The subtitle "Pinpointing Market Extremes -- Theory and Practice", lead me to expect exactly the opposite. If you've already read some articles about the standard oscillators, or read any other books that covered them, you already know everything you'll know after reading this book. Even the index, glossary, notes, etc., only get the page count of this slim paperback up to 160. The book promises a lot but delivers very little. The author generated some charts showing the various oscillators he describes, but doesn't contribute anything new himself. It's really no more than a survey of other peoples work. I didn't feel I got anything useful for my money. A beginner who wasn't already familiar with the normal selection of oscillators would be far better served investing in Kaufman's latest edition.

This book is not "a breakthrough" about oscillators, but a simple collection of some indicators. It lacks the intellectual depth of the book, "Trading for a Living," by Dr. Alexander Elder.
In the middle of the book, the author presented others' tests on some popular oscillators and the conclusion is indeed ugly for any "meaningful" usage of any oscillators, but the author had to acknowledge numerous times in the book that the oscillators do pinpoint the extremes of underlying markets quite well. The reader is then left wondering what has been gone wrong. The author does not offer any deeper insight than the plain facts. In fact, it is not the oscillators' fault, but the people use and test them in the wrong way.
The later half of the book is even more disappointing. The author just briefly outlined some new ideas and innovations, but never gave any test results. You might wonder why? The author clearly has the backtesting tools in his hands, TradeStation by Omega Research. He could have just run a few model tests on S&P500 or some other indexes and shown those results in his book, but he never did so. Should readers use those new indicators or not? The author did not answer directly to this question, but used the old testing results of some other indicators to conclude his book, "The evidence suggests oscillators function better as discretionary or forecasting tools than as the foundation for systematic trading strategies."
Overall, this book has some value to educate the general readers and introduce the ideas of momentum-based indicators, but fall short of the promise in its title, "Trading with Oscillators."

much needed specialized review

I was the type of person whom the author describes as familiar on a superficial level with oscillators and their use in trading. This book took me to a deeper level. Lots of good stuff and depth. The author is not shy in documenting oscillators weak-points either, so it's not just a market cheerleading book. Kind of overpriced for a pretty thin paperback, but I'm not sorry I bought it.

Prof. Dr. Tilo Wendler studied mathematics, physics and business information technology. In his doctoral thesis he examined determinants of user expectations in using information technology. With much interest he applied complex statistical methods in the banking sector especially in the field of rating methods. He has been teaching business statistics and data mining for ten years.

Dr. Sören Gröttrup studied mathematics and computer science with focus on probability theory and statistics and got his Ph.D. for his research on biological models. Parallel to his doctoral studies, he worked in a research institute as a data analyst on genomic data sets. Today, he works as a data analyst and statistician in the industrial and marketing sector.
