Don't waste your time or $2.00

This is not a book - it is barely an article! It's a "how-to pussy foot around your abusive OCPD "partner". Nothing in this piece of garbage mentions the OCPD person recognizing, changing, or taking responsibility for some level of control over their behavior. If I were to believe what very little J.B. Snow has to say, I would feel terribly hopeless. I would not waste my money or time on any of her kindle "books" on the subject. Just ridiculous.

Horrible book, drones on endlessly an uninformatively. The index to the book is garbage. Don't buy, and don't consider using this to teach a class, please.

The index is seemingly formatted by a child. For a 500-something page book, the index is 4 pages long of 18 pt. font. So many topics are missing, and words point to the wrong pages. Pathetic and extremely frustrating.

Excellent plane reading

I read it on a nine hour plane flight, and it was very well suited to it. A relatively short book (I finished it inside 5 hours, but I read quickly), and not one that's overly taxing on the mind. It's full of good stories and anecdotes, and makes for light-hearted reading. Still a fascinating insight into a world totally hidden from the day-to-day lives that most of us live. The tone is very conversational, and it's almost like spending the whole plane ride talking to a fascinating person, a very "civilized" criminal, if that makes sense.

A bit less that what I expected

Interesting but a little "light" for my liking.

I was expecting a little bit more of "meat"

I bought it to use it as complementary material in my logistics course here in Bolivia (I don't think that it's necessary to mention Bolivia's place in the value chain for cocaine?). Some concepts/ideas where worthwhile but, with reality being what it is, it fell short.

Great as an introduction to the topic (I haven't been able to find any other source as complete as this book).

A series of drug-trafficking stories rather than an instruction manual.

This book is extremely entertaining and once I picked it up I couldn't put it back down till the end. That being said, the book is more of a set of not-directly-related stories rather than an instruction manual or study of the drug-trafficking problems in the world today.

Entertainment aside, I am skeptical of some of the details in the book. The author is relating these stories from interviews he did with a former prisoner. Can a convicted drug smuggler be trusted to not embellish the stories he tells? Doubtful in my opinion. But then how much does he embellish in order to be entertaining? And does this really matter?

Again, the read is fun and I would not suggest taking any of it as precisely factual. My only other complaint is that the book is so short. Which is the complaint everyone has when they enjoy reading a good story.

Great Read!

I have read many books by this author and still enjoy reading her baby stories.

John and Charlie's story is a loving, tender read. The stereotyping of Charlie because she is a light skinned black woman and the prejudice she has to put up with from her own pulled at my heart strings because I know it happens in real life. Bad enough having to take that rubbish from bigoted racists but when your own race does it to you, it is so ugly. John kicks the perpetrator's ass and hands it back to him. Loved that!

I enjoyed the read and would recommend the story.

I love them!!! I was totally waiting on their story after Preacher's Son (Angel and Caleb's story). Only thing missing was an epilogue, but I'll just imagine they all lived amazingly happily ever after lol. S/N what happened with John's flamboyant brother? (goes to show I actually read the first book huh? lol)

I love Dahlia Rose. Always enjoy reading her stories. John and Charlie's story Was very moving and touched on the topic of racism within your own race. John was all Alpha and would do anything to protect Charlie. I would recommend this story can't wait for the next.

great photos of a lost world

Roland and Sabrina Michaud spent 14 years wandering around Afghanistan before the Russian invasion and subsequent series of wars put an end to their travels. They must have taken a huge number of photographs, trying to preserve on film ways of life and the ancient landscape that was doomed to disappear under the guns of late 20th century wars. Those wars continue. Once, they took a trip with five Kirghiz camel drivers and their 17 camels up the Wakhan corridor--a strip of land separating the USSR from Pakistan and touching China. They also haunted the bazaars, the oases, the hills and valleys of northern Afghanistan, searching for the picturesque, the exotic, and the soul of peoples whose lives would soon be transformed. They took excellent pictures of everything. For photography, who could give them less than five stars ? As for the text, it's minimal, not overly informative, and maybe notable as much for what isn't said as for what is. I would have to say that the text is too romantic and does not extend to any politics whatsoever. It has been politics, however, that did this "exotic" world in. You wouldn't pick this book for the text, OK, but with the photos, you can't go wrong. Take a look.

It was indeed once upon a time when two French youth must have looked at a map, searching for the ultimate in remoteness, and settled for the Wakhan salient, that geopolitical accident of the "Great Game" in Asia, the rivalry between Britain and Russia for dominance in Central Asia. The salient was a small bit of land, around 200 miles long, that was drawn on the maps to separate Czarist Russia from British India, connecting Afghanistan to China. And of all the dreamers who have looked at this map, Roland and Sabrina Michaud actually DID it - they went there, and with their youth and determination talked their way into one of the very last Bactrian camel winter caravan re-supply trips that ever occurred. Their pictures of a way of life that has now disappeared are haunting - a unique and most valuable documentary effort. At a time when so much of the world's attention was focused on a conflict in South East Asia, who could have known that this region would soon be engulfed in endless war, a tragedy occurring today.

In addition to the Wakhan trip, they explored at leisure many of the villages just south of the Oxus (Amu Darya) river, the border between the then USSR and Afghanistan. It is here where their best portraits of the Afghans were done, and although not explicitly confirmed, no doubt Sabrina was instrumental in composing and taking the pictures of the women. They also managed to photograph a "bozkashi," a national sport of sorts, whereby horsemen struggle for control of a goat. Of the landscapes, my favorite is on page 36, a village with mulberry and poplars in early autumn.

I agree with another reviewer that the text is somewhat overly romantic, and ignores the harsh realities of the existence so beautifully photographed. Furthermore, the text was eerily prophetic for the authors, specifically from the section on the Turkmenian wedding: "I like the peacefulness and serenity of these women. And if the carpets reflect their inner life, then I can even like their submission."

A beautiful book, a valuable historical record of a departed world.
